A new running event is coming to the Kansas City area June 30...

"I loved the Double," says Cindy. "It was a very fun race. I plan to do it again," says Abel. "Will I run it again?...In a heartbeat!" stated Tim. "I loved every minute of it. This is a very unique event that I feel would be appealing to runners of all levels," said Tyson. "Really enjoyed the recovery zone," stated Kevin.

Only the second Double Road Race (10k + 5k) ever held in America, it’s altogether fitting that the location is Overland Park, Kan., where Bob Anderson, creator of the Double, was raised.

This event will also mark the return to Kansas for special guest Billy Mills, Olympic hero and 10, 000m gold medalist, who went to high school and college in Kansas.

The Overland Park area is known for the luscious colors that give the town its beauty. The course for this race features clean, wide roads shaded over by trees that hovered over the campgrounds of soldiers during the Civil War and Native American settlements of the Colonial American era. Overland Park has consistently ranked in the top 10 of the 100 Best Cities to Live in the United States, and now it hosts the Double Road Race.  Billy Mills, Bob Anderson, the second Double ever held in America! This is an historic event no runner should miss!

Come Meet and Speak with Running Legend and American Hero Billy Mills

billy-winning-1964[1]"Billy Mills is our guest of honor in Overland Park June 30, and I am so excited that he will be celebrating his 75th birthday with us," says local race director Bruce Gilbert.

"I remember watching the 1964 Tokyo Olympics," says Bob Anderson.  "I watched Billy Mills shock the world when he won the 10,000m gold medal. It was so inspiring and I knew then that running would be part of my life forever."

"Final filming for A Long Run, a documentary, will be completed in Overland Park," says film director Michael Anderson. "This is your chance to be part of this important film featuring Bob Anderson's 50-Race Challenge in 2012."

"I am so exited that my wife, Pat, and I are coming back to Kansas for the Overland Park Double," says Billy Mills.  "I met Bob when he was publishing Runner's World and I am offering my support to his new sport.  See you at the Double."
